TALKS IN ROME
PURPOSE NOT CLEAR
AXIS PRESS SPECULATES
AFRICA OR SPAIN
LONDON, September 20. The German Foreign Minister, Herr yon Ribbenti;op, accompanied by the German experts now in Rome, resumed his conference with Signor Mussolini in Rome today. - It was announced in Rome that Herr yon Ribbentrop had been in communication with Herr Hitler by telephone. The German and Italian Press are still not clear as to'the purpose of Herr yon Ribbentrop's visit to Rome, but the war in Africa is a popular guess. Today's Berlin newspapers also ! declare that the Axis partners are discussing the exclusion of all British interests 'from Africa. Political developments in Spain are also said to be a topic of discussion but, in all this speculation, there is no common voice, even on the importance of the visit. The Rome radio revealed today that the armoured train in' which Herr yon Ribbentrop travels not only bristles with pom-pom guns but also carries a company of troops.
