LECTURES ON ART.
Two lectures on art have been prepared by the Association of New Zealand Art Societies for use by any art society, institution, college, or secondary school. Each is illustrated with a number of specially prepared lantern slides. The first of these, one on painting, by' Mr. Sydney L." Thompson, 0.8. E., was read privately last night to an interested audience in the British Medical Association's rooms, The Terrace. It traced in historical sequence the changes which have taken place in painting from the earliest days down to the present time, and dealt in more detail with the Italian, Dutch, German, French, and British masters of the last few hundred years. The practical aspects of painting were dealt with in a non-technical manner. Nearly 50 black and white slides showed examples of the world's masterpieces. The second lecture is one on sculpture, by Mr. F. A. Shurrock, A:R.C.A., which is illustrated with 40 slides.
