POPULAR MOVE
MR. WHITNEY'S COMMENT
SYDNEY, September 4,
The news of the transfer of United States destroyers to Britain was received with great satisfaction by the party of Americans who arrived from New Zealand by the flying-boat. Mr. Cornelius Whitney, the spokesman of the party, declared that the United States' action would be very popular with Americans.
The party was welcomed by the Federal Treasurer, Mr. P. C. Spender, and State Ministers. Mr. Spender assured the visitors that they had come to a country determined to defend itself against aggression and at the same time give the Mother Country the maximum assistance. Australia was also deeply appreciative of the good will and ever-increasing co-operation of the United States in regard to problems in the Pacific.
