The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole is for easterly to northerly winds at first over the North Island, with a change to westerlies or south-westerlies extending from the north. Over the South Island souther, lies will prevail. Winds will be mainly moderate to fresh in force, but in some exposed positions in central districts they will be strong. Conditions, however, will slowly improve from the north and west. Temperatures will be moderate in the north, but cold in the south with some snow on the ranges.
The depression which was centred over the north-eastern Tasman Sea is now immediately west of Taranaki, and anticyclones are still stationary to the east and over south-eastern Australia. Moderate to strong north-easterlies to easterlies predominated yesterday, but winds this morning had backed to the north-west in the far north, and Over most of the South Island had become light to moderate and variable. In southern districts the weather has continued fair, but elsewhere it has been dull with further widespread rain or drizzle, Cape Egmont reporting a fall of 73 points and Akaroa Lighthouse one of 64 points. The weather this morning had improved in the far north, but the rain has extended to south of Christchurch. Temperatures have been moderate in the north and cool in the south.
Except in DunPdin, where it was fine and sunny, the weather in the main centres has been cloudy and overcast. Auckland had heavy rain last night, Wellington has had intermittent light rain totalling 33 points, and in Christchurch a drizzle started about midnight.
