His Excellency the Governor-Gene-ral presided at a meeting of the Standing Committee of the National Patriotic Fund Board this morning.

The Minister of Education (the Hon. H. G. R. Mason) will leave for Auckland this evening. He expects to return by the weekend. Mr. H. McFeely, first assistant teacher at the Wellington South School, is to leave tomorrow to become headmaster of a school in the Hawera district. At a meeting of the Primary Schools' Football Association yesterday appreciation was expressed of Mr. McFeely's services as secretary of the association and good wishes were extended to him for the future. Similar expressions were voiced at last night's meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Football Association. Eulogistic reference to the Rev. A. T. B. Page, a former vicar of the parish, was made by the Yen. Archdeacon J. A. Jermyn, speaking at the social function held in his honour by j th'» parishioners of St. George's Church, Seatoun, last evening. "So many vicars, after they have been in a parish for a number of years, go away and are not appreciated, but not so Mr. Page, who is held in the highest esteem by all throughout the Dominion," said Archdeacon Jermyn. "We all know his worth and appreciate it." Similar'sentiments were also expressed in respect to the vicar of the parish, the Rev. C. E. Willis, who is with the N.Z.E.F. The Rev. A. C. K. Harper, of Ross, has been appointed vicar of Akaroa by the parochial nominators of the Akaroa parish. Mr. Harper has been vicar of Ross since 1937, and before that was vicar of Kumara. , : " . ■ Mr. E. C. Sutcliffe/ organising secretary of the Christchurch branch, of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners, will resign at the end of this month after twenty years* service. He will be succeeded by Mr» F. L. Langley. Born in Adelaide, Mr. Sutcliffe received his early education and political.training there. He came to New Zealand in 1901 to study the labour laws then coming into operation, and, after working in Christchurch, Wellington, and Timaru in the building trade, he settled in Christchurch, where he will continue to reside. Mr. Sutcliffe is recognised all over the Dominion for his wide knowledge of compensation matters. The Rev. E. P. Blamires (Auckland), who has supplied a church at Alton, Hampshire, for nearly a year, has been transferred temporarily to the British Methodist Conference, and appointed to the Sheringham Circuit, in Norfolk. > ' ' Sir Theodore Rigg, Director of the Cawthron Institute, will return to Nelson by the Matangi tonight Mr. M. J. Pripp, Vice-Consul for Sweden, is visiting Australia. Mr. S. G. Holland, M.P., was a passenger from the south by the steamer express today. Sir Hugh Acland arrived from tha south today and intends to return tonight. ..'
