NO APPEALS YET
ENROLLED RESERVISTS
In a statement relating to the enrolment of reservists of the First Division of the General Reserve, the Minister of National Service refers to the "avalanche" of correspondence which [has been received from men who wish to appeal against being called up for service.
Mr. Semple points out, as has been .frequently done already,? that no appeals or objections can be dealt with until the reservist concerned has actually been selected in a ballot. When that happens there will be plenty of time and opportunity to submit to properly-constituted tribunals appeals for exemption on one or more of several grounds upon which appeals may be based.
"I desire to make it perfectly clear," stated the Minister, "that my Department cannot take any action" with regard to appeals, the determination of which rests wholly with the tribunal referred to.
"Realisation of these facts will, I hope, result in a complete cessation lof the flood of letters that have for days passed poured into hundreds of post offices throughout the country and eventually piled up upon the Department's office tables."
