DISCUSSIONS WITH SOVIET
(British Official Wireless.) (Received August 15, 1 <p,m.) RUGBY, August 14... Answering a Question in 1 the House of Commons, the Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs (Mr. R. A. Butler) said that the Government was considering representations from the Soviet Government, which raised objection -to the prohibition imposed by- the:, Order in Council on the transfer of gold, balances lying. in the Bank of England to the account of the three Baltic States. . ~
Tl,e Soviet viewpoint is being carefully considered in the 'light of ijnportant legal, financial, and political considerations. . ~
When asked whether the fate of the gold balances would be considered as part of the general commercial agreement with the Soviet, Mr. Butler said that these Baltic questions provided a problem of their own. The British " Government had its point of view-arid interests and he saw no reason why a settlement should not be reached.
