Special forecast for Wellington:— Gradually decreasing southerly winds. Weather cold and showery, but Improving. The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole is for south-westerly to southerly winds, with a tendency later in the south for north-westerlies. Winds will be mainly moderate in. force, but will be strong at first in the Auckland Peninsula and on the East Coast between Banks Peninsula and East Cape. The weather will be cold and changeable, with showers at fair intervals in most districts. Some snow is likely on the ranges from Marlborough northward, and there will be some sharp frosts inland tonight, chiefly in the South Island.

A trough of low pressure, followed by Strong south-westerly winds and widespread rain has been crossing the Dominion, falls being round about half an inch in numerous places. Before the change moderate to fresh northwesterly winds prevailed, and the weather, apart "from some scattered light rain in western districts, was fair to fine. Temperatures have become cooler, with some snow on the high country in the South Island. There was a considerable improvement this morning in the weather in western areas and in the southern half of the South Island. It was showery in Dunedin yesterday with a south-westerly wind, and similar conditions set in at the end of the afternoon in Christchurch and Auckland, while the change affected Wellington late in the evening. Before then the weather was fair to fine in Christchurch and cloudy to overcast in the two northern cities with intermittent light rain. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Wellington yesterday were 53.9 and 43 degrees respectively, and 30 points of rain had been recorded at Kelburn up ito 9 a.m. today.
