CJ.C. MEETING

NATIONAL HURDLES

ACCEPTORS FOR TOMORROW

(Special to the "Evening Post.")

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day,

The best hurdle horses the country can muster will contest the Grand National Hurdles at Riccarton tomorrow, when the Canterbury Jockey Club's Meeting will be. continued.

Aussie Ra, runner-up to Padishah last year, has not won a race since, but he has been placed in several important hurdle races, and judging by his great finishing run into second place in the Trial Hurdles yesterday, when he failed to gather in Limbohm by a head only under 11.3, he should be hard to hold off at the end of two and a half miles when carrying 9.9.

Clarion Call will once more attempt to complete the . double. In 1938 he was beaten into third place by Padishah and Fireguard, and he looks' certain to make a bold showing, but some of the others may prove too solid at the weights. Tidewaiter has done exceptionally well since he started hurdling and, with 9.10, he looks like fighting out the finish with Aussie Ra. Jewelled Girdle and Norseman will also have good followings. Horses likely to be fancied in their engagements tomorrow are:— Aylesbury Handicap.—Jolly Time, Blue Abbey, Stylosa. Sumner Handicap.—Dranoel, Iceland Spar.. Prudent Prince.
