CALL AT SUVA
POSITION INVESTIGATED
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, This Day.
"I have been to Suva to investigate alighting areas outside Suva in the Fiji Islands, and it is expected that Suva will be included as a port of call for Pan-American flying-boats in the run between Canton Island and Noumea when necessary facilities have been made available," said Mr. Harold Gatty, who returned by the Mariposa from Suva today.
Mr. Gatty said that the distance from Canton to Noumea was about 2000 miles, and the hop from Canton to Suva was roughly 1200 miles, leaving 800 miles from Suva to Noumea. He had had conversations with Sir Harry Luke, Governor of Fiji, and the authorities at Suva, but these had not yet reached the final stage. Mr. Gatty said that the alighting of the clippers at Suva was a practical proposition.
