ATTACK ON BRITISH POSITIONS
PASS IN SOMALILAND
EFFECTIVE DEFENSIVE FIRE
(British Official Wireless.) (Received August 14, 11.10 a.m.) RUGBY, August 13. «. communique issued in Cairo states that reports have now been received of a general attack on August 11 on the British positions covering- the Jugargan Pass in British Somaliland. In x spite of intensive support by low-flying aircraft, the attacks were broken up and repulsed by British artillery and small-arm fire. At one place the enemy obtained a small local advantage but were immediately counter-attacked. One large enemy bomber was brought down by infantry fire. There is nothing to report on the other fronts in the Middle East. (Received August 14, 9 a.m.) LONDON, August 13. _ An Italian communique says that a battle for Berbera is raging between the mountain ranges and the coast, involving Italian units of all kinds and the main body of the British forces. The Italians are said to have occupied Adadleh, at the foot of the mountain ranges.
