LIGHT MACHINE-GUNS FOR HOME GUARD
LONDON, August 12. The "Daily Telegraph" say that thousands of light machine-guns will shortly be issued to the Home Guard. There are many improvised strongpoints in the country where the rifle would be of little value in an emergency, hence the decision to equip the units with guns capable of rapid fire. These guns, and also millions of rounds of ammunition, were recently [purchased in the United States.
Athens over the beheading of Daut Hoggia, the Albanian irredentist.
Relations between Italy and Greece are strained, but reports of imminent military action are declared to be without foundation. Italians link the incident with alleged British influences.
The Vatican paper "Osservatore Romano" disputes the Fascist version of the killing, and says it occurred on Greek soil.
