WHAT IS A COURSE?
In stipulating for a reduction of the number of courses in hotel and restaurant meals it might be just as well for the Ministry of Food to define a course, says the. "Manchester Guardian." Three courses seem to have been the custom in medieval times at a State banquet, while less ceremonial feasts consisted of only two, and private dinners of no more than one. But each course might comprise from eight to a dozen dishes, and at the wedding feast of Henry V, for instance, though there were only three courses, over thirty different dishes were served, irrespective of fruits and wines.
