(Received July 31, 1 p.m.)
LONDON, July 30.
It is learned in London that British forces in North Africa have been harassing Italian convoys bringing stores to Capuzzo. It is estimated that Italian losses in vehicles and personnel exceed British losses by five to one. A communique issued in Cairo states: "On all fronts there are no land operations to report. There is almost continuous rain in most areas on the Abyssinian frontier." A Nairobi communique states: "Today our ground forces made contact with strong enemy forces in the Moyale area. Further reports are awaited." The hundredth air alarm sounded ,when enemy planes approached Malta yesterday. The anti-aircraft defences forced the planes to turn back. A communique issued in Rome states: "Yesterday Italian planes repeatedly bombed an enemy convoy in the east Mediterranean, which was escorted by warships, including an aircraft-carrier. Various units were seriously hit and one was set on fire. One enemy pui* suit plane was shot down and one of ours has not returned. In East Africa our occupation of Kurmuk has been extended. We captured an entire enemy, column of food, arms, and ammunition."
