FAIR TO CLOUDY
FRESH NORTHERLY WINDS
Special forecast for Wellington:—
Fresh northerly winds. Weather fair to cloudy and slightly milder.
The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole is for easterly winds over the Auckland Peninsula. Elsewhere winds will be northerly to westerly in direction, mainly light or moderate, but strong at times in some exposed positions from Cook Strait southwards. The weather for the most part will be fair and mild. In the west and far south of the South Island, however, it will be unsettled with occasional rain, and there will probably be scattered light falls in the far north also.
An anticyclone still extends from the North Island to the Chatham Islands, while the depression over the southern Tasman Sea is moving slowly southward. North-easterly to northerly winds predominated yesterday and were mainly light or moderate in force, although about Cook Strait and in the extreme south-west they were strong at times. In the southern half of the South Island skies have been cloudy and there has been occasional rain in South Westland, but otherwise the weather has been fine and milder, with a few light frosts last night. There was little change in conditions this morning.
All four main centres had fair weather yesterday, winds being light to moderate and variable, with northerlies predominating. Temperatures were moderate, Wellington's maximum and minimum being 51.6 and 46.3 degrees respectively, and Christchurch having a frost last night of three degrees.
