MAORI CLUB

At the monthly meeting of the Wellington Maori Club, the Maori language glass was conducted by Mr. A. Morris Jones, who gave members practice in pronunciation and reading from one of Sir George Grey's Maori stories.

Mr. W. Toomath, secretary of the Old Settlers' Association, gave an interesting talk on the origin of the Maoris, in the course of which he referred to the similarity of names in Hindu and Assyrian history and that of the Maori. The speaker told a number of amusing stories of Maoris of more than half a century ago and his experiences while employed at Wae-renga-a-hika Maori College.
