It is reported that China has rejected Japanese overtures for an armistice and an all-embracing | settlement at the expense of the third Powers. j The Japanese proposals which the! Chinese rejected reported to be as follows:— First: The outright cession of five provinces—Hop eh, Chahar, Shantung, Shansi, and Suiyuan. Second: Recognition of Mr. Wang Ching-wei as President of a Chinese Republic made up of the remaining provinces, plus British Burma, French Indo-China, and Thailand (Siam), in which China and Japan would share the economic opportunities. Third: The status of Manchukuo to be left in abeyance indefinitely.
