PLUNKET FOUNDER

MEMORIAL PROJECT

SUBSIDY VOTED

The project for the erection of a fitting memorial to the founder of the Plunket. Society, the late Sir Truby King, was carried- a step further in the House of Representatives last night,- when a subsidy of £2000 was voted in the Estimates of the Health Department. The memorial will probably take the form of a training school for Plunket nurses in Dunedin, Sir Truby's home town. The Leader of the Opposition (the Hon. A. Hamilton) mentioned the item and paid a tribute to the work done by Sir Truby for the mothers and babies of New Zealand. He asked the Minister of Health (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong) where the memorial was to be erected and what form it would take. There was no one in New Zealand whose service was held in higher esteem than the late Sir Truby King, the Minister said. The result of his work could be seen everywhere and the amount to be voted was small when compared with his value to New Zealand and the world at large. Mr. Hamilton: Isn't there some subscription? Mr. Armstrong: Yes. This is a Government subsidy to that. The idea is that.a memorial should be erected jin Dunedin and that it should be in I the form of a training school.
