HOCKEY REFEREE
SENIOR TEAM SUSPENDED
IBy Telegraph—Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, July 17.
A special meeting of the management committee of the Canterbury Hockey Association was held tonight to consider a complaint received from um-: pires in the Trinity v. Technical game' last Saturday. A report from one of the umpires stated that a member of the Trinity team had questioned the decision in a penalty bully and he had to appeal to the players to refrain from talking and passing-remarks, At the conclusion of the game, the report stated, some of the players of the Trinity team had counted him out, and there was a considerable amount of booing as he walked off the field. As he was unable to name the players responsible for the demonstration, he had no option but to report the whole team.
The report was considered in committee and the following statement was made by the chairman, Mr. J. L. Squire:—The committee considered that there was insufficient evidence to prove who was responsible for the booing and that portion of the charge was dismissed. On the charge of counting out, it was proved to the satisfaction of the committee that a number of the team were at fault, and it was decided to suspend the whole of the team which played in Saturday's game and to eliminate Trinity Club from the senior competition for the rest of the season. .
