In a contest for the presidency of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club, Mr. A. L. Matson, who secured 291 votes, defeated Mr. F. E. Graham, with 126. For the vice-presidency, Mr. C. S. Thomas recorded 293 votes and the Hon. W. Hayward 123. Other officers elected at the annual meeting of the club were: Committee, Dr. M. G. Louisson, Messrs. Hayward. F. W. Johnston, T. H. Ker, G. Rutherford, W. G. Brass, C E. Hoy, D. F. Glanville, and A. A. Penfold; stewards, Messrs. W. G. Brass, A. S. Guiney, D. F. Glanville, H. C. Harley, W. Hayward, W. H. Hollis, C. E. Hoy, F. W. Johnston, T. H. Ker, M. G. Louisson, Messrs. W. S. Mitchell, J. Palmer, G. Rutherford, W. E. Simes, and J. Mawson Stewart; treasurer, Mr. G. W. C. Smithson. Mr. Matson, in thanking members for appointing him president, said he did not intend to introduce any radical changes. While he would do his best to further the interests, of the club, the first and uppermost duty of all was to do everything possible to help win the war. j
