The first race at Matamata on Saturday is due to start at 11.15. a.m., and the last race at 4.20 p.m. •

Erination's • correct weight in the Grand National Steeplechase is 11.12 not 10.12.

Makoi, who promises to be a strong favourite for the Corbett Steeples at Matamata, fell while schooling at Ellerslie on Tuesday, but took no harm from the mishap.

The Whirlwind—Diamond Maid filly in J. H. Wallace's stable at Takanini will race as Miss Gay. She is a halfsister to Gaymiss and will race in the same interests.

Among the active, workers at Takanini is Flood Tide, and the dash he is infusing into his tasks suggests that he will stand up to another preparation.

Lord Midas, a useful hack sprinter with two successes to his credit this term, is carrying plenty of condition at the moment. He has been gelded since he last raced.

Spendthrift is to have his first race over hurdles at Waimate on Saturday. In his training he shows outstanding promise as a jumper.

The results of the Victoria Grand National Hurdle Race and Steeplechase at Flemihgton last week must have proved costly to the layers of odds, as the respective winners, Cheery Jack and Blackford, were staunch favourites for some days before the events were decided.

As the result of Jack Tar earning £70 for his second at Trentham, the Hon. Eliot R. Davis and Mr. O. Nicholson are now at the top of the winning owners' list with £5040. Next in order is Mr. R. Stewart, with £5015. Riding . engagements announced for the Matamata Meeting include:—O. Mclnally,. Etcetera, Young Paddon, Mai de Mer, Rival; L. C. Brown, Abbey King, Glenbevan, Sunny Downs, Sieglinde; V. Gollop, Wildore, Miss Ridicule, Valerian, Bronze Step; H. Long, Jayola, Maxown; H. Maria, Mio Fratollo; F. Meynell, Acquest. Streamline, who won the Great Northern Hurdles at his last start under 10.0, goes up to 10.12 in the Grand National Hurdles. Jewelled Girdle who had 10.2 in the Great Northern and fell, and has since won the W.R C Winter Hurdles with 10.13. goes up to 11.8 in the Grand National. Streamo£ e\J or, missinS Trentham, thus has 81b the better of it at Riccarton without counting his Ellerslie victory
