NATIONAL FUND

FINANCIAL STATEMENT

Donations to the National Patriotic Fund under all heads for special and general purposes since the campaign for funds began to July 15 total £595,891 6s 3d. Included in this sum is £442,158 15s 3d received on account of the Sick, Wounded, and Distress Fund. The total expenditure has been £112,778. The provision of a 35-millimetre talking picture plant for the entertainment of the artillery units stationed at Fort Dorset, Wellington, was one of a number of items in the category of amenities and comforts approved by the board.

It was decided to supply band in^ struments for a small band on one of the auxiliary cruisers; also radio sets and gramophones and records for minesweepers. The Whenuapai and Rongotai Air Force training centres are to be provided with three billiards tables each, and it was decided to add to the amenities available at the Territorial camp at Tauherenikau.

Those present at the meeting were his Excellency the Governor-General Lord Galway, who presided, the Hon. W. Perry, M.L.C., Messrs. L- O. H. Tripp, F. W. Schramm, M.P., C. Todd, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, and the sec-retary-treasurer, Mr. G. A. Hayden.

The customary period of silence was observed, members standing, as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Colonel J. Esson, who was a member of the board. Mr. Todd, who was: appointed recently in his stead, took his seat at the board table for the first time/
