TRAMS COLLIDE
MOTORMAN BADLY HURT

GHRISTCHURCH, July 10
A tram from Sumner struck a tram from the city in a head-on collision this evening. The motorman of the citybound tram, Mr. G. Askew, was seriously injured, being taken to hospital with a fractured pelvis. .
The tram which Mr. Askew was driving was extensively damaged, the motorman's cabin being smashed in. It carried five passengers. A small girl was thrown violently across the floor but was unhurt, another passenger, a man, was knocked unconscious but soon recovered, and the others were unhurt.
The reason for the collision apparently was; that the signals at Shag Rock and at the Clifton stopping place failed to function.
