TWISTED STORY

BRITAIN'S ORDER FOR RAILS

(BrlttstJ OtHclaJ Wireless.) (Received July 6, 12.10 p.m.) RUGBY, July 5. The announcement that 112,000 tons of steel rails has been ordered by Britain from America was twisted in German home broadcasts into a story that Britain had placed an urgenl order because of the destruction wrought by German raiders on British railways.

The assumption is absolutely unfounded. The rails have been ordered so as to release British plant for the manufacture of munitions and to replenish reserve stocks. The German raids on Britain so far have been desultory affairs and have left the railway system intact

British raids on Germany, on the other hand, have done serious damage to the rail transport system. This damage can no longer be concealed from the German public and the German authorities have been forced to try to prove that they are giving tit for tat in England.
