A WHYTE OUTSIDER
Hunting Royal is stepping rather high in taking on the open milers in the Whyte Handicap at Trentham on Tuesday, but he has the possibilities of surprising, says a Hawke's Bay critic. In two of his recent races at Hastings he was ill served in the start but finished on very solidly. Hunting Royal has already proved himself in the Trentham mud. Last July he won the Trial Plats from Areas and Lady Tinkle, and then on the final day he repeated the performance among the hacks in the Crofton Handicap, in which the three next behind him were Screen Star, Windsor Chief, and Blonde Princess. Since resuming recently he has run a second, two thirds, and a fourth in six starts. He is closely related to Royal Routine, Slippery, and others who excelled on heavy going.
