LONG & USEFUL LIFE
LATE MRS. MANTHEL
The funeral of the late Mrs. Mary Manthel, a pioneer settler of Wellington, was held this morning when, after a short service, the cortege went to Karori, where the funeral service was concluded. . • . ' . . The Rev. Percy Paris officiated, and, in a brief eulogy, referred to the wonderful life of 85 years in this city when, in the early days especially, she played her part in forming the character of the people with whom in that-long space of time she had been associated. The restless spirit sh^wn by her in those early days was her .strength and an example to all. Many who knew her would recall.that long life of quiet decision "to do good to all whom she met. The example of a good life .would surely be.. something that would live on, in the remembrance of her work and service for others. A quiet faith and confidence were her stay in troubled years and would remain with her family and friends an abiding recollection that would never be effaced. The bearers were Messrs. Maurice Clarke, S. Allwright, Noel Manthel, and Cliff Perry, all members of Mrs. Manthel's family. A wealth of wreaths was a testimony to the esteem in which | she was held by a large gathering of friends and relatives.
