PEDESTRIAN KILLED
(By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyrteht.). OAMARU, This Day. A pedestrian, John McMaster, of Hilderthorpe, labourer, was knocked down by a car and killed on the main highway last night.

One thing, however, which emerges clearly from the political situation is that President Roosevelt will' be renominated by the Democratic Convention in July, unless at the eleventh hour he refuses to run. Almost as clearly do men of both parties accept as a fact the President's re-election in November.
In times of stress it is a human trait to turn for comfort to the familiar. President Roosevelt is an established symbol. He occupies a solid position which any successor would take time to build up. He inspires faith, not only through the mere fact of having been the symbol of American Government for nearly eight years but because his judgements of what would happen abroad have been consistently right. He saw the war was coming when the Isolationist leaders such as Senator Borah were confident it was not.
