MRS. MARY MANTHEL
The death occurred this morning of Mrs. Mary Manthel, of Wellington, in a private hospital, at the age of 92. Mrs. Manthel came to Wellington in 1855. and later married Mr. Alfred George Manthel, who predeceased her 30 years ago. Her son, the late Mr. Maurice Manthel, was well known in musical circles in Wellington. A daughter is Mrs. J. T. Clarke, of Brougham Street. Mrs. Manthel leaves two grandsons, Mr. Noel Manthel, of Manthel Motors, Wellington, and Mr. Maurice Clarke, manager of Union Airways; six granddaughters, arid eighteen great-grand-children. The late Mrs. Manthel had watched the growth of Courtenay Place during 85 years, and remembered the Maori pa and the days when the Basin Reserve was a swamp. The funeral takes place tomorrow.
