RUGBY FOOTBALL
WELLINGTON'S WIN
MATCH WITH TARANAKI
Another of the many exciting Rugby football matches between Wellington and Taranaki representative teams took place yesterday at Hawera, the visitors winning -by two points in a high-scoring game. A long lead had been gained by Taranaki, but this was gradually reduced and the position gave rise to great excitement. Play in the concluding stages was exceptionally keen, with Taranaki trying their utmost to hold out against the strong Wellington advances and the visitors snatching victory in, the nick of time.
The play of the Wellington forwards contributed in no small way to the success, though Taylor's kicking was a great factor. Each side scored three tries, and all three by Taranaki were converted, with two penalty goals also placed to the account. Only one of Wellington's tries—scored by McNicol, Ongley, and Kirschberg—wag converted, but Taylor, in addition to converting the try, landed four penalty goals. The result was: Wellington 23, Taranaki 21.
