AUCKLAND, This Day.

A proposal to make a gift of £1,000,000 from sterling funds in London to the British Government for the prosecution of the war or alternatively a shipment of two or three cargoes of produce without payment being asked was considered by the Chamber of Commerce today.

The proposal, made 'by Mr. Allum, was previously considered in committee and- was communicated to the Associated Chambers of Commerce. A letter from the Associated Chambers stated that the New Zealand Farmers' Union had not been particularly sympathetic towards the suggestion for the shipment of produce on the ground that it might interfere with commitments entered into by the Government.
