FIGHTER PLANES
SOUTHLAND SCHEME
PRESENTATION TO BRITAIN
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
INVERCARGILL, This Day.
A public movement for the purchase of fighter aeroplanes by Southland for presentation to Britain culminated in the setting up of a representative committee which has asked the* Government for permission to raise and remit the purchase money overseas. The objective is £25,000, of which £500 has already been donated by Mr. G. A. Hamilton, of Lumsden.
The committee is co-operating with the Gore Returned Soldiers' Association, which is sending two representatives to Wellington for discussion at headquarters. The public wish the presentation planes to be manned by Southland pilots. Government permission for the appeal is awaited.
