Members of the permanent staff of Messrs. Thomas Borthwick and Sons, Ltd., in New Zealand and Australia have offered to care for children of the firm's permanent staff in Ungland for the duration of the war. Offers to billet so far received from members of the staff in New Zealand alone indicate that over a hundred children could be accommodated without any difficulty, and in all probability that number could bo increased considerably It necessary
The firm has cabled to its head office in London making the offer, and a reply has been received expressing deep appreciation of the gesture and stating that the matter was being inquired into. It was suggested that applications for evacuation of the children from Britain should be made through the appropriate authorities in England. ... The proposal has been taken up with enthusiasm by the members ot the staff in New Zealand. The children, if the scheme is adopted, will be distributed among the firm's employees at Masterton, Feilding, Waitara, and Belfast Already Masterton employees have offered to take about 40 children.
"Western Canada is preparing a royal welcome for New Zealand airmen when they arrive to participate in the Empire training scheme," said Mr. E. E. Ackland, honorary agent for the New Zealand Government at Vancouver, who has arrived on a visit to the Dominion, states the "New Zealand Herald." Mr. Ackland added that in Vancouver arrangements were being made for a civic welcome, at which thb Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia, the Mayor of Vancouver, and other dignitaries would be present,
