BUDGET DEBATE
MR. HAMILTON TO OPEN TONIGHT
MR. FRASER WILL FOLLOW
Although the House of Representatives has made a delayed approach to the Financial Debate, which is to be opened this evening by the Leader of the Opposition (the Hon. Adam Hamilton), it is likely to follow a normal course for some distance, as a number of Opposition members are anxious to have something to say about the Budget proposals.
Mr. Hamilton will be followed tonight by the Prime Minister (the Hon. P. Fraser).
The question of the Government and the Opposition agreeing on some plan for unified control of the war effort is still open, and the fact that the two leaders have resumed conversations during the last few days suggests that something positive may emerge within the next day or so.
The Government Party held a caucus this afternoon.
TAXING BILLS
It'is expected that tomorrow or the next day a number of Bills designed to give legislative effect to the taxation proposals outlined in the Budget will be introduced. There will also be an amendment to the Social Security Act relating to the family benefit. The proposed National Security Tax will be given effect to by a clause in a Finance Bill.
