Among the decorations, awarded to the officers and men of the B.E.F appears a Military Cross given to Captain Francis Robinson, Royal Artillery After taking a reading part in the de fence of Calais, this officer successfully engaged an enemy battery with a Impounder gun mounted on a trawler in Calais Harbour, firing the gun till all the ammunition was exhausted
Captain Robinson took the trawler to Dover but returned next day with two armed yachts He landed, a naval party under enemy fire and succeeded in embarking three officers and 55 men of the Calais garrison.
The official account concludes: "As no fire could then be heard from the citadel, Captain Robinson returned to England."
