QUADROON AMISS

DU MAURIER SPRINTS FAST

(Special to the "Evening Post."»

PALMERSTON .N., This Day. There was increased activity at Awapuni yesterday morning, when the fast work took place on the course proper, the flags being wide out. The going was soft and inclined to be greasy after a frost. Quadroon, who was expected to race prominently at Trentham, broke down in a gallop on Saturday morning and is not making the trip. It was unfortunate for his connections, for he was in wonderful order.

Clarion Call was given a working g_llop over a mile and went well. A. Jenkins is to ride him at Trentham.

Catalogue was sprinted half a mile and came home % well to complete in 56sec. He is to' have his chance of winning a fourth Winter Cup and is in great order at present. Sleeveless was not required to do her best in running five furlongs in lmin 13sec. She is well forward.

Aurora's Star accompanied Colonel Bogey over a mile in lmin 59 2-ssec, the last three in 41 2-ssec.

Little Dorrit and Squeers sprinted five furlongs in lmin 12 2-ssec, both going well. Squeers finished very smoothly at Woodville on Saturday and will be all the better for the race. Old Surrey went with Francis Drake over a mile and, with a pull in the weights, the latter was in front at the post. They ran the first five furlongs in lmin 10 2-ssec, but they were slowing up towards the finish. Classform was two lengths in front of Inform after covering six furlongs in lmin 26 3-ssec. Neither will race the first day at Trentham. The best effort over seven furlongs was that of Dv Maurier, who was going solidly at the post after running the last six in lmin 24sec. A*, smart five furlongs was credited to Don Quex, who was just in front of Last Acre in lmin lOsec. Tolaga worked over a mile and he came home well over the last three furlongs in 42 2-ssec ■ _ ~. Hirangi (Williamson) and Kincora (P. Jarvis) were schooled, each giving a satisfactory exhibition.
