Further results of the first round of the debating competition under the auspices of the Wellington Union of Public-speaking Societies are as follows: —Parliamentary Shield congest: Law defeated Hutt (2), Marist defeated V.M.C.A. by default. B grade contest: Leonine defeated W.E.A., Waterside (2) defeated Ngaio, Waterside (1) defeated Treasury, Twenty-two (1) defeated Upper Hutt. The draw for the second .round is: Parliamentary Shield contest: Twentytwo (1) v. Law, Waterside (2) v. Marist, Petone v. Hutt (2), Waterside (1) v. Twenty-two (2), W.E.A. v. Hutt (1), V.M.C.A. v. Accountants. B grade contest: Twenty-two (1) v. Waterside, Leonine v. Waterside (2), Twenty-two (2) v. Ngaio, Marist v. Petone, W.E.A. v. Upper Hutt. The debates are to be concluded on or before July 21.
