PARAMOUNT THEATRE.

Good Cheer Week, i.

Under the title of good cheer week the Paramount Theatre will present, commencing on Friday, two films which should prove popular with the public—"Follow the Fleet" and "Keep Smiling." The first film, "Follow the Fleet," has every element to make it first-class entertainment. It moves fast, has a grand cast, a.good comedy story, haunting melodies, and fleet-footed dancing. It is tuned to the minute, and comes at a time when it is most topical. Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers head the cast, and some of the, song hits are "Let Yourself Go," "Here Am I, But Where Are You?" "Let's Face the Music and Dance," "I'm Putting All My Eggs in One Basket," "Get Thee Behind Me, Satan," "I'd Rather Lead a Band," and "We Saw the Sea." "Keep Smiling" is one of those screen tonics that come only once in a long while —an infectiously happy, lilting, film with a perfect cast. Happiness is the keynote of the story. Gracie Fields's role is one of the finest she has had —leader of a variety troupe, their guide, philosopher, and friend, a tower of strength in times of trouble. She has many songs, both comic and "straight," singing them as only she can. The production itself is on a lavish scale, with action and thrills going hand in hand with laugh after laugh. There are refreshing village scenes, scenes "down on the farm," aboard a river houseboat, in London, in the pier pavilion at a seaside resort. The film is one to do justice to the amazing genius of its star, who has an excellent cast in support, including Mary Maguire, Roger Livesey, Peter Coke, and "Skippy."
