WOMAN BEING SENTENCED
PLACED ON PROBATION

AUCKLAND, This Day,
Placed in the dock at the Suprcie Court today for sentence for making a false declaration under the Marriage Act, Elaine Myrtle Thompson (31) fainted when the Judge was stressing the seriousness of such offences. The prisoner collapsed when his Honour intimated that he had decided to grant probation for one year.
On her way out from England to rejoin her husband, who had taken his discharge as a seaman and was residing in Christchurch. Mrs. Thompson fell in love with a naval rating and when they were planning' to marry she gave wrong information to the registrar. They did not go through a ceremony of marriage.
