MILITARY TRAINING
SCHOOL TRANSFERRED
COURSES AT TAUHERENIKAU
The Central Military District School of Instruction, which has until recently been established at the Trentham Mobilisation Camp, was on June 1 moved to and commenced training at the Tauherenikau racecourse, with a course for officers and n.c.o.s of the Ist Battalion, Wellington Regiment, and an instructional course for officers and n..c.0.s with a view to their appointment as instructors to the National Reserve (Class II) special units.
Captain J. M. Reidy, N.Z.S.C., is Camp Commandant, and has with him as Adjutant Lieutenant W. G. Bessett, 2nd N.Z.E.F., and two officer instructors, who recently completed a course at the Army School, Trentham, and who will eventually join the 4th Reinforcements.
The C.D.5.1., temporarily established at Tauherenikau, will undertake training courses for Territorial units, "tryout" courses, and courses for staff and temporary staff. There has been left at Trentham Mobilisation Camp what is known as the C.D.S.I. Trentham Wing, which will deal with courses of instruction for units of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. (other ranks, including n.c.o.s for reinforcements). This wing is under the direction of Major J. W. Barry, N.Z.S.C, Staff Officer (Training) at Trentham Camp. He has with him Lieutenant Curtis, N.Z.S.C, as Administrative Officer.
Eleven officers and nine n.c.o.s, who attended a trial course in March last, will, on July 1, attend a course of instruction at the C.D.5.1., Tauherenikau, preparatory to their appointment to the Temporary Staff, mainly for duty in the Trentham Mobilisation Camp.
Other officers and n.c.o.s will attend a week's "try-out" course at Tauherenikau, also commencing on July 1, and if they gain satisfactory reports at the end of the period will spend the remainder of the morfth on a course of instruction with a view to their appointment to the Temporary Staff. It is also hoped to run a refresher course during July for instructors in areas, and, towards the end of July, another course for cadets for first appointment to commissions in the Territorial Forces.
