GERMAN AIM

ENVELOPING PARIS

THREAT INCREASED

TWO MAIN DRIVES

LONDON, June 10.

The German attack threatens to envelop Paris. The German advance continued today both west and east of the city in spite of the vigorous counter-attacks at many points. As the direction of the two main German drives becomes clear it appears that the aim of the German High Command is to push mobile columns past Paris to the east and the west and complete the encirclement from the south..

Vernon is 25 miles south-west of Gisors, so that the German advance in this direction has brought them no nearer to Paris. If they are able to push forward along this line they will pass wide to the west of the capital.

The French communique says that enemy columns which debouched yesterday afternoon in the Soissons region resumed their attack this morning, the direction of the drive being towards Chateau-Thierry. If the Germans were to succeed in crossing the Marne this wing would pass far to the east of Paris.

-The communique makes no mention of the strength of the German advance, but it is clear from the extent of the advance in the last two days that the threat to Paris has been considerably increased. The city is fully prepared to defend itself, and the people are going about their business with absolute calm. ■

The French Ministry of Information announced tonight that the Premier, M. Reynaud, had gone to the front.
