COLD WEATHER

OCCASIONAL RAIN

Special forecast for, Wellington:-—

Southerly winds, probably freshening tomorrow. Weather cold with occasional rain. !

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole is for northerly winds temporarily in the South Island, otherwise westerlies to southerlies will prevail, and these will be strong in the far north and will become strong later in many places elsewhere. The weather will be cold and changeable, with showers- at times in most districts and with some snow on the ranges

An extensive depression crossed the Dominion during the weekend. A centre developed on Saturday night to the west of the Auckland Peninsula, and this was located this morning to the east of Cook Strait. Northerly winds have predominated, gales being reached in many places in the North Island on Sunday. A southerly change, however, commenced in the south .on Sunday, and southerlies had extended over most of the Dominion by this morning. The weather generally has been unsettled, rain falling in western districts on Saturday and extending over most of the country yesterday. On the west coast of the South Island and about the East Cape area there have been some heavy falls. Although there was an improvement in the south this morning, scattered drizzle or rain was falling in most other districts. Temperatures have been mild, but with the southerly change they have become cold again, with frosts in the south.

Intermittent rain fell in Wellington on Saturday, but in the other three main centres the weather was .fine, although overcast in Christchurch and Dunedin. All fourf centres, however, had rain yesterday. Northerly to north-easterly winds predominated on Saturday, and Auckland had a northerly gale yesterday and Wellington the same last night. Winds yesterday turned to the south in Dunedin and Christchurch, and westerlies to southerlies predominated in all four centres this morning. Wellington had no bright sunshine at all during the weekend. Three points of rain fell on Saturday and 38 yesterday, while temperatures ranged between 55.3 degrees yesterday and 45.5 degrees on Saturday night.
