Established in 1896 the firm of Holben and Kirk came into being coincident with the establishment of. the dairy industry in this district, and the firm fitted up mos.t of the butter factories and creameries as the industry developed

The business of plumbing and sheet metal working has also taken up a great deal of the firm's activities, and they are well and favourably known throughout the district. With such a firmly-established business the manufacture of sheet, metal in the form of tanks spquting, and plumbing material generally, necessitates large factory space, and this is situated at the rear of the premises in RangiU';ei Street. ■ " .

Engineers' supplies and steam engine fittings., with all the various necessities of the dam* industry are stocked including the Chammon Brand of milk and cream cans.

The Chief Electric Water Heater is one of the more successful manufac tures of the firm, being in very extensive use by dairy farmers throughout the district. The special feature oi the Chief Heater is that owing to pipe connections being underneath the cylinder no break is necessary w the top or the sides, thus ensuring the insulation being always dry, making a suppl> of boiling water available at any time.

Some of the agencies which, are very successfully handled by -:hi3 firm are the Driver Power Tools and Store Trucks oi all kinds; Plibrico Plastic Firebrick used for the lining of boiler furnaces, and Feusol high temperature, cement for the setting of furnace brick The majority of the boiler furnaces in the district havt been serviced with these materials, making a more durable job than with ordinary firebrick.

The increasing importance of the city as a distributing centre has been contributed to, in no small measure, by its progressive business concerns, and Holben and Kirk., Limited, have done their part both in supply and service to maintain this position.—P.B.A.
