«. FRENCH GENERAL GIRAUD LONDON, May 22. The fate of General Giraud, the French commander who was reported to have been captured, is unknown, and the French spokesman was unable to confirm or deny his capture. The spokesman admitted that some members of the General Staff were taken prisoner. (Received May 23, 10 a.m.) LONDON, May 22. The German official agency, amending last night's report, says that General Giraud was captured in a tank while touring the front to organise French resistance. The previous German official news agency report, referring to a High Command claim that General Giraud had been captured, stated that it was not General Giraud buij a new commander of the 9th Army who was captured, and alleged that General Giraud had been dismissed and was returning to Paris at the time.
