Shells pierced both wings of the machine and shrapnel spattered the fuselage, starboard engine, and rudders, punctured the right tyre, and holed a petrol tank, with the loss of many gallons of fuel. But even then the pilot managed to bring his machine and its crew safely back to his base' without loss of life.
