BEAU VITE ON TOP

TRENTHAM WINNINGS

With a little more than a couple of months to go, the stake-winnings where Trentham horses are concerned do not promise to reach the same aggregate as last year, when a record season was enjoyed.

Twelve months ago the local centre had such fruitful winners as Beaulivre, Peerless, Siegmund, Arctic King, Trebor, etc., to assist towards building up a grand total of £25,065 10s, which set a new figure for Trentham.

In the intervening period Beaulivre, who had headed the list in the 1938-39 term, was transferred to Hastings and then sent across on a mission to Australia. However, Beau Vite, who had played a subsidiary role to the other Beau Pere colt as a two-year-old, went on to far greater heighxs us a three-year-old, and his efforts on the Turf have brought to his owner, Mr. Ralph Stewart, of Wellington, the very handsome return of £6415, not to mention a couple of handsome trophies for his sideboard. . Thanks to those efforts of pesu Vite, his trainer, T. R. George, is in the happy position of having already topped his aggregate of last season, trie sum of £11,609 10s having been credited to the members of his team to date v This represents an increase of £150 10s only, but it is quite probable that the margin will be carried substantially further before the current season closes. Naturally enough. Beat* Vite's winnings far exceed those of the other inmates of the stable, for he has supplied over half of the total won. but Alunga (£797), Duncannon (£620), Galteemor? (£612), Ruling Star (£530), and Piastre (£450) have all registered useful totals.

One of the more fruitful members of the old term, Dungarvan, has not attained the same heights this Season, but he will have an opportunity of carrying his account further in the future in the role of hurdler. Incidentally. Duncannon, who also carries the colours of Mr. J. C. Kennedy, was credited with £1080 prior to coming to Trentham.

The loss of Beaulivre consequent on his being sold after the death of his original owner, Mr. W. Higgins, lost to H. R. Telford his best performer, but in Globe Trotter (£1199), Enrich (£790). Absolve (£455), etc., he has been able to build up an aggregate of £3249 for the current term. However, with the majority of his team members spelling there is little prospect of the aggregate being advanced to any material extent meantime. Another trainer with a strong team, numerically-at least, under his charge. H. B. Lorigan, has been steadily advancing his figures of late, and his aggregate now reads £2537 10s, of which Siegmund has been responsible for £1200. He has still some £700 to win to equal his aggregate of last season, but this trainer will have many opportunities of reducing the deficit considerably before the curtain is dropped on activities for the current term.
