FURS FOR SOLDIERS
ONCE WORN IN MAYFAIR
Mink coats.and sables, which formerly, graced social gatherings in Mayfair, are, now saving the lives ■of refugees in Finland, and skins which were intended for the West End furriers protected Finnish soldiers from the Arctic cold. They were sent to Madame de Gripenberg, English wife of the Finnish Minister in London, states an exchange. a
"The response to my appeal for furs was amazing," she said, "especially when we remember that Britain is fighting a war of her own. Titled women and ordinary housewives all contributed. We had the most lovely coats in mink and sealskin; fur-lined flying boots and helmets; sheepskins; old furs; and baby clothes.
~ "Only a few days ago I heard of two young Finnish children from the Petsamo region who arrived alone in Norway. Their mother had died of cold on the way. Today, through the Red Cross, we hope that the lives of other such mothers will be saved by the fur coats of British women."
