HEALTHY BALANCE
REGRET EXPRESSED
"MONEY GIVEN TO SPEND"
Dealing with the financial position at the meeting of Hataitai householders last night, the chairman (Mr. Lan Harvey) struck an unusual note. He said he regretted very much that the committee had such a healthy credit balan.ce in its two accounts. The attitude he took, ,he explained, was that the money had been given to spend on behalf of the school, and he would rather see the money spent than carried over until the next year. One reason for the position, he continued;' was that the headmaster who had retired early this year did not wish to take" the responsibility of selecting any equipment which the new headmaster would have to use. Another contributing factor was that tinder, new legislation the installation of a new heating system had not cost the committee ■ anything. It was evident from various recommendations : that were made that the committee: will not be lacking in suggestions which, if adopted, will involve" expenditure of money. There were recommendations that consideration be given to trie question of purchasing more library books, and also to the questions of displaying ..the..* booksbetter and of decorating ithe school interior. .'.-■'. ; -: ;

An interesting survey^ of progress was also given by MriClarki who made; special reference to the assistance given in the early days by the late Mx> Harry Crawford.
