BETTING AT FORBURY

Once again tbe Forbury Park Trotting Club has changed its betting system. For many years the singlepool method with two dividends was used, and the club made good profits and substantial progress in every department of the sport. Then came the depression and with its revenue falling, the Forbury Club, in common with all similar organisations, looked round for a method that would boost the totalisator returns. Win and place was tried, but eventually the Forbury officials propounded a y scheme of their own, that of having two dividends in the ratio of 75 per cent, and 25 per cent, on the win machine, and the customary three dividends on the place totalisator. This appealed to the betting section of the public, but owners and trainers were up in arms, as they contended1 that the pools on the win machine were not big enough to return satisfactory dividends.

After a good deal of argument, the club decided to revert to the singlepool system, but it had hardly been used a year before sufficient agitation persuaded the club to go back to the five-dividend plan. This was used at the spring and the. summer meeting. Once again the system has been changed, and at the winter meeting to be held on May 9 and 11, win and. place will be in operation.

Namesake, who made a successful debut at Blenheim, is a three-year-old gelding by Peach Brandy out of the Rangitirb—Miss Quarantine mare Rangi's Last, hence a three-quarter blood relative to Cuisinier. He has a very pronounced Roman nose.

Roy Bun was capturing his second Marlborough Cup when he beat Mishna in this year's contest last Saturday. In thus completing this season's NelsonMarlborough Cups double, he repeated the performance of Davistock (1937) and The Dove (1931) in recent years.
