MAORI BATTALION
PARADE ON SATURDAY
SPEECHES AT PALMERSTON
The 28th' (Maori) Battalion, which •is to accompany the Second Echelon of the N.Z.E.F. overseas, will parade at Palmerston North at 3 p.m. on Saturday to hear a series of addresses. The-principal speakers will be the. Prime; Minister (the Hon. P. Fraser) and the Mayor of Palmerston North (Mr. A. E. Mansford). Others present in the official party will include the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones), Major-General J. E. Duigan, C.8., D.5.0.,. Chief of the General Staff, Colonel R. A. Row, D.5.0., officer commanding the Central Military District, and a. representative of the Maori race. The battalion will march from its camp in the / Showgrounds through Cuba and Rangitikei Streets, and along the. south side of the Square to a 'position in'front of the band rotunda, from which the addresses will be given. At the conclusion of the addresses N the battalion will march back to its camp. \ The battalion camp will be open on Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. to permit, relatives and friends to visit members of the battalion. ' In the event of the weather being wet the ceremony will take place at the Showgrounds.
