ORIENTAL V. ST. PAT'S 0.8.
Giving a splendid exhibition of solid rucking play, the Oriental forwards dominated play in the match with St. Patricks College Old Boys at Athletic Park. Time after time they made devastating rushes that sorely tested the opposing defence. Quick to take advantageof the line work of the forwards, the Oriental backs gave valuable support, Dwyer giving good service behind- the scrum and. Morgan proving a tower of strength at centre. After the interval Jack was given an opportunity which he turned to good account on the wing, several fine individual efforts penetrating deep into opposition territory.
Although somewhat cramped by the depredations of the Oriental pack the St. Pat.'s backs were no less enterprising than their opponents. Fine work by Paine, O'Connor, Geary, and Gallagher opened up numerous opportunities that could easily have been turned to account, while Dance came through a hard day's work with credit. The St. Pat's pack contested every inch of ground without let-up, but lacked the combination of the Oriental pack.
For Oriental, tries were scored by Morgan, Dow, Dwyer, O'Brien, and Jack, one of which was converted by Martin. A try by Gallagher gave St. Pat's their only score, and a keen and bright game ended: Oriental 17, St. Pat's College Old Boys 3. Mr. A. Hooper was the referee. /
